Sports Facilities! Luxury or Necessity?
A society is formed by its people. For people to be physically fit, it is important to acknowledge what is required to live a good & healthy life. Being physically fit helps us in maintaining our energy levels throughout the day. So, it is good to consider fitness as our necessity, so we can accomplish other life missions.
We, as a nation, have come a long way in terms of fitness in comparison with the last few decades. But, there is still a long way to go & few alarming facts are rising right in front of us.
As per research by Indian Journal of medical research:
“Pooled data after 2010 estimated a combined prevalence of 19.3% of childhood overweight and obesity which was a significant increase from the earlier prevalence of 16.3% reported in 2001-2005.”
Some other facts include: –
- 33% of the Indian population above 30 years of age is suffering from one or more lifestyle diseases such as diabetes, cardiac problems including high cholesterol, blood pressure, thyroid, and Cancer.
- Close to 9.4% people are suffering from high cholesterol followed by 7.7% suffering from diabetes and 6.76% people suffering from thyroid.
- Almost two-thirds (64%) of Indians say that they don’t exercise. Interestingly, while nearly half (46%) of Indians say that leading a healthy lifestyle is their top priority.
